The Notions are a new 5 piece Indie Rock band from Kilmarnock who are definitely Ones to watch for 2019 with their first 3 track EP being released on the 29th of March, 2019. We went in and got the facts from "The Notions" to find out a bit more about them!!
How did you guys form?
Quite ironically, we actually met at a music festival. Lewis Got talking to lead singer Barry in a queue for the toilet and we realized we were from the same area and had a shared desire to start a band. He got in touch with his friend who is a drummer and I messaged the bassist of my old band and our current bassist Adam and we got a few practices organised.
Who are you as a band?
We are a five piece, lead singer Barry paton, lead guitarist Lewis Lennon, bassist Adam Clark, rhythm guitarist Reece McCrone and drummer Chris millar. The genre we fall in to is indie rock. We are extremely passionate about our music and are playing a large part in the recent revival of our local music scene in Kilmarnock.
What is the process of writing new tunes?
Most often Bass player Adam Clark will come up with basic melody’s and progressions and lead guitarist Lewis lennon will take it away and get some lyrics to it and turn it in to a proper song.
Who are your biggest inspirations?
We are heavily influenced by Arctic Monkeys, the clash and Kasabian. Our current sound is combination of the raw sound of noughties indie music such as the arctic monkeys first album and the classic punk sound of British bands such as the sex pistols and the clash.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
As a band we aim to reach as high as we can. We are Young, motivated and passionate so the sky is the limit for us.
What would be the best thing that could happen to you as a band?
The ultimate goal is for us one day to be standing on stage and having the words of the songs that we have worked hard to put together sung back to us by the crowd.
